How we source and date every rule

Going independent — renting your own booth or suite — is a real business decision, and the internet is full of generic, undated advice that doesn't match your state's board. We built SalonBoothLicense the opposite way, around one promise: every requirement you see is pulled from your state's own rules, dated to when we last checked it, and honest about what the official text doesn't pin down.

Our method, in plain terms

• Straight from your state board. Whether you need your own establishment license, the fees, the inspection rule, how your booth rent is taxed, and the worker-classification rules come from your state's board of barbering and cosmetology (or its equivalent) — not a national average and not a blog's paraphrase.
• Dated, so you can judge freshness. Every state entry carries the date we last verified it. Licensing rules and fees change; a dated rule tells you exactly how current it is.
• Flagged when unsure — never invented. When the official text isn't specific about a figure (an exact fee, a processing time), we mark it “to confirm” and point you to the board, instead of guessing a number that could send you the wrong way.
• Sourced, so you can verify. Each state links back to the statute or board page it came from. You never have to take our word for it.

Why the state-by-state detail matters

The single most common mistake booth renters make is assuming the rules are national. They aren't. Whether the booth or the establishment is the licensed unit, who holds that license, the fees, and how independent-contractor status is judged all change at the state line. A generic template can't warn you about the trap that actually catches people in your state. That state-specific accuracy is the whole point of what we do.
